Overview
The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust serves the Dudley borough and surrounding areas, providing acute hospital services from Russells Hall Hospital, as well as outpatient services at Corbett and Guest hospitals. The Trust employs over 4,500 staff and serves a population of approximately 450,000 people. Known for delivering high-quality care, the Dudley Group is dedicated to improving patient outcomes and reducing waiting times, particularly in key surgical areas.
The Challenge
With the increasing backlog of surgeries, particularly in elective Orthopaedics and ENT procedures, The Dudley Group initiated a waiting list initiative. They needed an experienced partner to support their surgical theatres, ensuring additional surgeries were completed in a timely and efficient manner while maintaining high standards of care.
Our Approach
We partnered with The Dudley Group to provide comprehensive support for their theatres at Russells Hall Hospital. Each theatre was staffed with a fully equipped team, consisting of: 1x Anaesthetic nurse, 2x Scrub nurses, 1x Recovery nurse and 1x Circulator.
Highlights
Across the course of our contract, our team consistently delivered the following daily surgical outputs:
- 10 - 15 day case surgeries (Minor Orthopaedics & Ophthalmology)
- 4 - 6 orthopaedic surgeries (hip and knee replacements)
- 4 general ENT surgeries
Throughout the project, we maintained a 100% fill rate, and received zero complaints.
We covered 100% of staff absences and DNAs, ensuring uninterrupted surgical schedules.
Our team worked efficiently and effectively on a daily basis, collaborating closely with the Trust's management and in-house teams to streamline processes and maximise output.
Outcomes
By maintaining consistent staffing and providing high-quality support, we helped significantly reduce the Trust's waiting lists across all surgical specialties involved.
This successful collaboration demonstrates our ability to provide reliable, high-capacity theatre support, helping NHS Trusts meet their surgical targets and reduce patient waiting times.
